With the Garden of yhe Moon, the three protagonists of the Joan Mar Sauqué Trio have become a consolidated entity: each of them sounds more confident than before, and together they navigate the music with the abandon allowed by knowing that the other two have got your back. The game entails dancing the rehearsed choreography of the ensemble and the freedom of solo flights, within the self-imposed brevity of the tunes and the record itself. The steps, written or improvised, are exact; the message, succinct and to the point.

The trio inhabits an unequivocal universe of swing, tonal clarity, telepathic teamwork and subtle detail. Their aesthetic co-ordinates are neatly defined, but not dragged by clichés. Despite the weight of so many references in the jazz well that nurtures their inspiration, they do not aim for a recognizable sound.
